Angelina’s Talk-Story #7 (June 3, 2009)
Aloha everyone, what can I say other than in five days my mission for children with special needs will begin. I have been thinking about and training for this for over six months and now the moment is upon us.
There are a few announcements in order to bring you current on my progress. First, on May 9, we (my husband and I) participated in the Ka ‘Ohana O Honaunau festival, we had an information booth with flyers explaining my mission and bringing awareness to the public attending the festival. It was great, there were food booths, entertainment and other information booths.
Second, I want to acknowledge our wonderful friends Bert and Joanne Wong from Holualoa for donating the van being used for my mission. Thank you so much for your generosity. Third, my wonderful friends from Albuquerque, NM, Joe and Bianca Marti donated T-shirts and Larry and Brenda Ford (Councilwoman Dist. 7) also donated T-shirts. So everyone will be seeing our orange shirts with our logo out there. Thank you for your generous gifts.
Last but not least I want to acknowledge the wonderful friends and the families that will be hosting us throughout our journey. We have sponsors for most of our stops, with the exception of stops three and four.On stop three we will be camping at Punaluu Black Sand Beach and stop four we will be camping at Namakani Paio in Volcano National Park. We are looking forward to camping and invite everyone to stop by and talk story. We do have a host for the camping portion, Bumpy (H. J. Valentin) from the Veterans Administration in Kona will be cooking and feeding us for those two stops and will accompany us for the 40 mile stretch. The following friends and families are our overnight sponsors, we appreciate you opening your home and hearts and making our journey more pleasant.
- Marcie, Poita & boys – South Kona
- Deborah Howard – Hawaiian Ocean View Estates
- Punaluu Black Sand Beach
- Namakani Paio Volcano National Park
- Russell & Val - Kurtistown
- Politano Ohana - Hilo
- Ray Otomo - Laupahoehoe
- Lester & Lisa - Waimea
- Bobby Dean & Mandy – Waikoloa Village
- John Storlie – Kalaoa
- Bert and Joanne - Holualoa
We will be picking up the van on Sunday June 7, getting it all packed up, checking our list three times making sure we have everything. Monday June 8 is the last day of school, there will be an assembly that will send me off on my walk around the world (as my students put it). This will be in the morning around 8:00 a.m. We have two banners identifying my walk which will be placed on the sides of the van making it very visible. I invite everyone in the community to join us at Konawaena Elementary School campus for the festivities.
I am also looking for professionals throughout the island who may be interested in working with my program. Please contact us at www.specialneedskidskona.org
I am extremely excited to announce that all who have contributed thus far have been a part in reaching the first goal and surpassed the $5000 before the beginning of my walk. On Sunday May 31, 2009 the donations reached $6,156.11. I cannot thank everyone enough for helping this become a reality.

Aloha,
Angelina
